Luiz Rizental didn’t grow up dreaming of being “Brazil God.”

He moved from Brazil to Austin at nine years old, didn’t speak English, got thrown straight into full immersion school… and somehow ended up playing soccer at SMU and working investment banking during the 2009 financial crash.

No poker prodigy story.
No childhood home games.
No online grind at 16.

He didn’t even take poker seriously until 2017.

Instead, he became a full-time trader. Volatility addict. Screen junkie. The kind of guy who loved a big swing.

Then he wandered into a Chicago casino.

Lost $400.
Called it stupid.
Came back the next week.
Lost $1,000.

And for some reason… kept coming back.

If you’re new around here, every week (or so) we yank a gambler straight out of their seat at the table to tell us how they got there — and what they’re up to now.

This week’s episode is about what happens when a high-volatility trader walks into a poker room… and refuses to take it too seriously.

But first — wouldn’t it be great to clear a 200% deposit bonus and stack some fellow degens over at Phenom Poker?

We might even run another Rake Race promo soon for people who signed up with our link…😉

Alright, back to Luiz. How’d he go from trader to degen to…break even player?!

Brazil God’s poker arc isn’t clean.

It’s not “I studied solvers at 19 and crushed.”

It’s: Trading six figures by day → punting six deuce offsuit by night.

Pandemic app games → $60K week → “Okay… maybe I should learn what I’m doing.”

Doug Polk course attempts.
Coaching requests denied.
Realizing most smart people stay bad at poker forever.

And then…

Hustler stream invites.
ACR shirt troll vs Nacho.
An 11-minute cooler.
Facing Justin in NBC Heads-Up.
And a Brian Rast shirt revenge arc that may never be topped.

Also: he hates tournaments.

Genuinely hates them.

Unless he’s sweating pieces from his phone.

🔥 What We Talk About

The difference between trading volatility and gambling volatility
Why poker gives positive feedback for bad decisions (and why that’s dangerous)
The $60K week that forced him to actually study
Why personality matters in stream games
Why most intelligent people plateau in poker
The psychology of break-even as a goal
Why he’d rather sweat the Main Event than play it

🎧 If You’ve Ever…

Felt like poker messes with your brain
Wondered why bad decisions sometimes feel amazing
Or thought, “I just want to survive this game”

This one’s for you.
